Zebulon Society Happenings Mrs. B. H. Johnson and Mrs. Wallace Chamblee were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Shamburger of Richmond. Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Shambur ger are sisteTs. * Earl Hampton Moser, Jr., re cently was the stop-over guest of his parents here. He was en'route to Washington, D. C., to make a report of his three-month Antar tica expedition to government of ficials. Moser is an engineer with the Naval laboratories. He was stationed at McMurdo Bay, An tartica. On his way from the cold spot, he stopped in Hawaii for a vacation. His wife, Claire, joined him there. His stop-over in Hawaii completed his tour of the 50 states of the nation. * Mrs. Charles Flowers, Mrs. W. C. Campen and Scotte Brown mo tored to Wilmington Sunday. They toured Orton Plantation and spent some time sightseeing aboard the U. S. S. North Carolina. * Brenda Massey of Wendell spent last weekend with her grandmoth er, Mrs. H. B. Pearce of Zebulon. * Mrs. Lindie Puckett and Mrs. Shelton Bunn were weekend guests of Mrs. Puckett’s daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Irving of Burlington. * Mrs. Clarence Hocutt is recuper ating at Wendell-Zebulon Hospital after undergoing gall bladder sur gery last week. * Mrs. Doris Privette is attending Woman’s College in Greensboro. This is for certificate renewal cred it. Tommy Wood is in Chattanooga, Tennessee, this week during spring football practice at the Uni versity of Chattanooga. Tommy flew to Chattanooga on Wednes day, via Atlanta, and will remain on the campus until Saturday. He will motor back via Western Car olina College at Cullowee. Tommy is a graduating senior at Wakelon and outstanding athlete. * Bob L. Pugh will be in Pitts burgh, Pa., next week at the spe cial institute sponsored by West inghouse. Mrs. Pugh’s grand mother is spending the week in Zebulon during Bob’s absence. * Mrs. David H. Stephenson of Clayton, mother of Mrs. Joe Vin son, left Monday after spending three weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Vinson. * Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Crowder spent the weekend in Kinston with Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Hills. Mr. Hills at one time was manager of the local theater here and re sided in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Crowder. * The grandson of Mrs. .Janet Conn, Russell Stephenson, Jr., of Raleigh, will wed a former Miss North Carolina on June 22. Russ will marry Ann Herring, Miss North Carolina of 1961. He is as sociated with Wachovia Bank in Raleigh. * Mrs. Jack Potter attended the 21st annual alumnae seminar at Meredith College on Saturday, April 6. * Mrs. J. M. Potter, Sr., of Ra leigh, the former Crystal Davis of Zebulon, was one of four Mere dith alumnae who served on the panel for the 21st alumnae semi nar held at Meredith College on April 6. She is a 1926 graduate of the school. * James R. Tant has been elected Information Officer of the East Carolina College Arnold Air So ciety. * Mr. and.Mrs. Royal Bunn, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Pippin, Mrs. Glenn Debnam, Misses Carolyn and Kay Pippin, Sidney Richard son and Charles Long were in Wilmington Sunday where they toured the U. S. S. North Carolina battle ship and the azalea gardens. Mrs. Robert Miller of Elizabeth City was the Friday guest of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and I Mrs. W. C. Campen. She was en i route to her home after a visit in ! Orangeburg, S. C. * Two old friends got together | Thursday and for them it was a | day of pleasantness. Mrs. Wil i liam Rodman came down from her , home in Raleigh for a day-long visit with Mrs. W. C. Campen. The two are long-time friends. * 1 Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Thome, aunt and uncle of Mrs. R. H. Brantley, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Brantley last weekend. They re cently toured the West Coast and Hawaii. Mrs. R. H. Mrs. Herring ac ! comipanied another daughter to i Baltimore, Miss Annie Mildred Herring, who visited her mother ! last week. Miss Herring resides : in Northfield, Mass. * E. C. Daniel, Jr., of New York City, spent last weekend with his j parents. Sunday afternoon they i toured the State House. * Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Hinton will spend Easter weekend with their J son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hinton of Raleigh. On Sun day, Mrs. Hinton’s sister, Mrs. Mc Rae Faison of Roanoke Rapids, was the luncheon guest of Mr. and Mrs. Hinton. Kathy Quick Celebrates Birthday Kathy Quick celebrated her fifth birthday with a picnic for some of her dancing class and other friends. Her three-tiered birth ; day cake was topped by a ceram ic April birthday doll. Friends present for the picnic and party were Geny Fowler, Martha Susan Tippett, Betsy Ross Eddins, Tracy Turlington , Marcia Grogan and Mary Davis. After enjoying a delicious fried i chicken lunch, the children play i ed games. | Wednesday P.M. Club Meets Recently Mrs. E. H. Moser was hostess to j the Wednesday Afternoon Club re I cently at her home on Gannon ! Avenue. Arrangements of camel I lias, forsythia, quince and hya cinths were used for decoration. Mrs. J. K. Barrow, Mrs. W. C. Campen, Mrs. J. F. Coltrane, Mrs. E. C. Daniel, Mrs. A. R. House, Mrs. S. G. Flowers, Mrs. B. H. Johnson, Mrs. F. E. Bunn and Mrs. C. V. Whitley were the members attending. Coming as guests were Mrs. Howard Bunn, Mrs. A. S. Hinton and Miss Margaret Bar row. The refreshment hour followed with a course of ham biscuits, black cherry salad, sweet pickle peach, caramel cake and coffee. Easter Motif Used At Bridge Session An Easter motif was used when Mr. and Mrs. Howard Beck enter tained the Saturday Night Cou ples Bridge Club last week at their home on Arendell Avenue. Members playing were Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Finch, Dr. and Mrs. Ben Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Bunn and Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong Cannady. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mitchell. Mr. and Mrs. Davis were high scorers and were presented a gift for the feat. Low score prize was | awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Thom as. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell were ; remembered with a gift. Wendell Classes To Present Play The junior and senior classes of Wendell High School will present their class play, “The Adorable Imp,” on Thursday evening, April 11, at 8 o’clock in the school audi torium. This fast moving, hilarious farce is built aTound the slightly mixed i up love life of a young girl, her I mother, and her grandmother. Adoption Announced Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Corbett an nounce the adoption of Betty Sue Parrish on March 30. Mrs. John D. Horton Dies Monday; Funeral Services Held Wednesday The death of one of the town's S prominent women citizens, Mrs. John D. Horton, occurred early Monday night. Mrs. Horton, 75, died in Roger’s Rest Home in Wake Forest. She had been a patient at the home for 11 months. Her death was at tributed to a stroke. She was the former May Kemp, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Kemp. After graduating from Meredith College with a bachelor of music degree she I taught private piano classes for many years. At one time she was a member of Wakelon School faculty. She was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church and served as pi anist for several years. Always active in church affairs, she was at one time a teacher in the junior department of the Sunday School and worked with the church’s young peoples program. I Mrs. Horton had been a mem ber of the Woman’s Club and was a charter member of the Wednes day Afternoon Club, the town’s oldest civic organization. She was the widow of John D. Horton. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Doris H. Privette of the home; one son, Bobby Horton of Cincinnati, Ohio, and four grandchildren. A funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o’ clock at Zebulon Baptist Church. The Rev. David Daniel, pastor, officiated. Buriel was in Zebulon Cemetery. The casket was covered with a pall of red carnations. Pallbear ers were Frank Kannon, Robert Massey, Ferd Davis, H. A. Hodge, Jr., Joe Wood, and Robert Ed Hor ton. Serving as honorary pallbear ers were F. E. Bunn, Wilbur Bunn, C. V. Whitley, E. H. Moser, E. C. Daniel and Dr. J. F. Coltrane. Mr*. John D. Horton CWF To Sponsor Easter Services The Christian Women’s Fellow ship of the Wendell Christian Church will again sponsor the an nual Good Friday candlelight service at 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, in the sanctuary. The public is invited to attend this worship service which is un der the direction of Mrs. Curtis Todd, worship chairman of the or ganization. The Rev. John D. Whidden, pastor, will preside over the communion service and spe cial music will be presented by the chancel choir. Rev. C. Spurgeon Pasehall Revival Services At Clydes Chapel Revival services will begin Mon day, April 15, at 8 p.m. at Clyde’s Chapel Baptist Church, according to an announcement by the pastor, the Rev. Gene Leamon. The Rev. C. Spurgeon Pasehall, pastor of Belmont Baptist Church of Charlottesville, Va., will be the visiting preacher. He is a grad uate of the University of Rich mond and Southern Baptist Theo logical Seminary. The Rev. Mr. Parchall will be remembered because he has held services in the Zebulon area sev eral years ago. Special music will be provided by a 25-voice choir under the di- , rection of Mrs. Agnes Fore, music director of Rolesville Baptist ] Church. , As a climax to the service, Sun- ] day, April 21, has been designated “County For Christ Day,” with a | Sunday School goal of 225 pres- , ent. The table was covered with a white linen cloth and cen tered with red roses flanked with silver candelabra with red burning tapers. A small white open Bible was also used in the arrangement. Red punch, individual cakes, cheese straws, chicken salad sand wiches and cookies were served. Mrs. Hopkins presided at the punch bowl and Mrs. Murray at tended to the other refreshments. Mrs. Bullock is the former Dixie Brantley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. V. Brantley of Zebulon. She and her husband are the parents of three children, Gilbert 3ullock of Zebulon; Joel, who is with the U. S. Navy at Camp Le eune; and Gloria of the home; md three grandchildren.
